Miss Turkey is a national beauty pageant for unmarried women in Turkey, who personify beauty with intelligence. The first beauty contest was held on September 2, 1929 with the backing of the government, and the winner of the title was Feriha Tevfik, among the 125 participants.[1]
Miss Turkey pageant was initially promoted by the newspaper Cumhuriyet. Since 1980, it is being run by the "Miss Turkey Organization". Between the years 1980-1990, the contest was sponsored by the newspapers Güneş, Sabah, Tercüman, Bulvar and some others.
With the establishment of private TV channels in Turkey in 1990, the channels Magic Box, Show TV, Channel D, Star TV, NTV, CNBC-e and FOX TV took over the promotion of the pageant. The title "Miss Turkey" is a registered trade mark.
Miss Turkey Organization currently sends delegates to winner goes to Miss World, the runner ups goes to Miss Universe, Miss Earth and Miss International.
